We spent Christmas Eve night at my parents’ house and woke
up there Christmas morning. Last year we
drove back up to our apartment and had Christmas morning by ourselves which was
very special but this year it just would have been too much driving back and
forth and it was nice to be able to stay in town and not miss out on any
festivities. We had a great morning
eating sausage pinwheels and hashbrowns, drinking coffee and mimosas, and
unwrapping way too many gifts :) My grandparents came down around 11:00 and we
exchanged gifts with them and hung out until around 1:00 when we left to go to
Maw Maw’s house for Christmas lunch.

Maw Maw’s children (Kevin’s Uncle Alan and Kevin’s mom) and their children (Uncle Alan has FIVE children and two of them have children as well so they make for a large family!) always come over to her house on Christmas day. We had soup and sandwiches…I always look forward to when Kevin’s mom makes “Ugly Soup”! It is yummy. After lunch we unwrapped gifts – Maw Maw gives everyone a gift (she has LOTS of shopping to do!) and everyone gives Maw Maw a gift, and then everyone else draws names at Thanksgiving.

We spent Christmas night at Kevin’s parents' house and did another round of gift exchanging there! We had a great time just hanging out and relaxing. Kevin’s mom made breakfast the next morning, including deer sausage and I actually thought it was pretty good :)

It was a great 2nd Christmas together. We had a wonderful, memorable first Christmas
together last year but this one was even better. We were busy as usual but really enjoyed all
of the time spent with our families and felt like it was well balanced. Our families are very understanding but figuring out planning between families can still be tough especially as a newly married couple so this year we tried to plan our
Christmas schedule far in advance and made a pact to put each other (and each
other’s families) first to help alleviate tension – and I think it worked! Looking forward to every Christmas getting
better and better!
