Post-Christmas Festivities

The day after Christmas we had breakfast at Kevin’s parents’ house and then went over to Brianna’s mom’s house to visit her family.  This was one of the first Christmases in a long time that I haven’t gone over there on Christmas day, sadly that’s one tradition we’ll have to change up a bit now that we’re married and can’t be 5 places at once!  So I was glad we were able to go the day after and it still felt pretty much the same – Brianna in her pajamas, me all dressed up in new clothes, at least one of her five sisters there, taking the annual picture in front of the tree, Olivia and Josh begging to get in the with us, giving Mrs. Marina cheese straws from Mom and getting some cinnamon rolls from Mrs. Marina, and exchanging gifts with Brianna!

That night Mom and Dad had us and Maggie and Ronnie and Ronnie’s mom (in town from Africa) and sister (currently going to Duke) over for dinner.  Mom always made lasagna for a late Christmas lunch and Maggie would come over and eat with us – so this was a fun tweaked tradition too.  We had a great time hanging out with everyone and getting to know Ronnie’s family better (Kevin and I had met his mom and sister before when we stayed with them for a few days during our trip to Africa in 2009!).  Mom also made a red velvet cheesecake for the first time and it turned out delicious!!

The Thursday after Christmas we went down to Newnan to get together with Kevin’s dad’s side of the family.  We ate dinner at Kevin’s Aunt Kim and Uncle Mark’s house and had a great time catching up with everyone.  Kevin’s cousin Matt (also the pastor who married us) and his wife Jenn and their baby Grayson (turned 1 in October) were there so we had a good time catching up with them, and Christmas is always more fun when babies are around.   Unfortunately I didn’t have my camera and Grayson would not be still enough to get a good picture with my camera phone, so this is all I have as evidence of our visit!

I took the week off of work the week between Christmas and New Year’s and it was wonderful – I think I will do this every year going forward if I can!  It was nice to be able to relax, unpack and clean.  Floyd enjoyed laying anywhere I finished cleaning :)

I also had time to sort through our gifts and took a few pictures before I stuffed them all away in our tiny apartment so I can remember what all we gave each other and were given by our wonderful family and friends.

Not good for New Year's resolutions...

Kevin and I have decided one thing after seeing everyone’s young children in our families this Christmas: whenever we do have babies, they better be CUTE because they have a lot to live up to!  Haha!  Only kidding, but seriously, our families make some cute babies.
